Why a book in each child's hand?
250 million children are unable to read or write, even at the end of primary education, which is a result of the lack of reading materials in the hands of children worldwide.

Children in developed countries are lucky to have access to print materials at home and in their communities, which allows for ample exposure to reading activities. By contrast, many children in developing countries rarely get to hold a book which is not a textbook from school (if they are lucky enough to be in a school).

We believe that availability of reading materials is strongly correlated with literacy. Greater access to reading materials would automatically prompt people to pick up something and read.

This project aims to provide reading materials to children, no matter what their social or economic status. Beginning with four schools in Pakistan, we would like to expand to other places and inspire other organizations to ensure that every child is able to read at least one book in his or her life. Books will be provided in both English and in local languages.

Is this an ambitious aim? No, it really is not. With myriad organizations working in the development sector and social philanthropy at its highest ever, it is absolutely possible to inculcate the love for reading in every child.

Lao Tzu had said that "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." We are beginning this journey. If you are part of this journey, the dream of every child being able to read is not far-fetched.
